PRESCHOOL AND PRE-K CURRICULUM
for our 2 year olds, 3 year olds and 4 year old Pre-K children...
Our philosophy at B.E.S.T. Learning Center is to offer a fun and informative program of learning that encourages each child individually while utilizing a hands-on approach. We offer half and full day structured classes for our 2 year old, 3 year old and 4 year old (Pre-K) children. Additionally, a mini-day class is offered for 3 year olds and 4 year old Pre-K students. An Accelerated full day Pre-K class has just been added to our program. A full curriculum is utilized in all classes that balances socialization development and academics to completely prepare the children for the next level of education.
A daily plan includes:
Circle time: calendar, counting the days of the week, songs, weather bear, show & tell and a look at the projects and academics that will be the focus of the day. Art Activities: painting, cutting, tearing, pasting, gluing, creating, play dough, clay, working with many mediums, and much more... to encourage your child's creativity. Science & Math: taught through sand & water play, various counting games, science experiments, cooking projects, outdoor activities, to mention a few! Fine Motor Activities: to build eye-hand coordination with manipulatives such as puzzles, beads, blocks, sewing cards, peg boards, etc... Recess: on our poured rubber, fenced playground . We have many "Little Tikes" pieces of equipment for physical exercise, fun & games with friends and fresh air! Story Time: stories that coordinate with our themes are read to the children each day to entertain and enhance academics.
Our Specials...
Special Instruction Programs with Qualified Instructors
Dance/Movement/Music: (1 to 5x weekly) in our large GYMNASIUM! Our private Instructor teaches physical education, movement, music appreciation, finger plays, many different styles of dance, parachute play, hand held instruments, tumbling and lots of fun! Our stage is ideal for drama and performances throughout the year!
Spanish: Our Spanish teacher goes to each classroom. She teaches common words and simple phrases. Our curriculum includes Spanish bingo, various games, songs and activities that are all designed to teach and expose our children to the excitement of speaking a new language. Magnifico!
Computer Class: The children go to our computer classroom where our computer teachers give the children individual instruction 1-4 times weekly. Programs and games coordinate thematically. Basic computer handling, fine motor skills and coordination are all enhanced through this activity.
B.E.S.T. Learning Center's theme calendar outlines our themes that are taught throughout the year. Our themes change approximately each week and incorporate many facts and learning activities. Our thematic approach offers our children a fun, yet factual introduction to science, math, community, health & safety, social studies, reading readiness and more. All themes are age appropriate. Our classrooms are set up in centers to include: Library, Dramatic Play, Fine Motor, Blocks & Transportation, Science & Math and Listening Centers. Academically, each day we also teach and reinforce colors, shapes and independent letter and number recognition. We begin our classes with organized, structured activities that concentrate on academics and learning tasks. Our 3 year old and Pre-K classes keep journals and have daily writing of their names and the letters of the alphabet. Reading Readiness is emphasized by teaching the letter sounds and discussing words that begin with the letter of the week. We are very proud to offer a NEW Accelerated Full Day Pre-K class that has an enriched Pre-K curriculum that encompasses PreK and Kindergarten curriculum. Throughout all of the learning, our ultimate goal is to encourage each child to develop his or her own personality and special qualities and to become confident, self assured, happy students!
New Accelerated Full Day Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum B.E.S.T. Learning Center is very proud to present a New Accelerated Full Day Pre-Kindergarten Program. This innovative class offers a faster paced Pre-Kindergarten curriculum that ventures into our Full Day Kindergarten curriculum. Our Accelerated Pre-K Class can provide your child with a more challenging, well rounded curriculum. The school year begins with our comprehensive Pre-K curriculum but since this class meets 5 days a week on a full time basis and is made up of some of our brightest students, that have scored high enough on our Pre-K screening, by mid-year the Pre-K curriculum will be completed and the class will delve into our Kindergarten curriculum.
That includes the excitement of:
Reading groups utilizing a balanced literacy program, sight words and word families;
Math concepts such as number recognition, measurements, shapes, time, money, and simple addition and subtraction; (The Sadlier-Oxford Progress in Mathematics text is combined with hands-on activities to teach math concepts.)
Handwriting skills are strengthened with Zaner Bloser Series:Fun with Letters Handwriting.
Sign Language Art Science Social Studies Self-Help Skills Health and Safety
Harcourt Brace Activity Books; Science Anytime, Your Health and My World and Me are fun and informative additions to our book list. Zaner Bloser: Let's Write a Fairy Tale, Let's Write a Trickster Tale and Let's Write a Holiday Story are great books for building imagination, writing, creativity and language arts skills.
Dance/Movement/Music/Gym: with our private Instructor encompasses physical education and music appreciation. INFANT AND TODDLER CARE PROGRAMS
Our Infant and Toddler Rooms are available throughout the school year and summer, according to the B.E.S.T. Learning Center calendar. B.E.S.T. Learning Center offers 3 infant and toddler classrooms for children between 6 months and approximately 19 months of age. Our rooms are separated by ages. The first infant room is for ages (approximately) 6 -10 months. Our middle classroom is for ages (approximately) 11 - 15 months and finally our toddler room is for ages (approximately) 15 - 19 months. These are all dependant on each child's developmental abilities, such as crawling, walking, feeding, etc. We also take into consideration the time of year that your child begins with our program so that we are sure to place them with children in their age bracket. The small ratio of 1 - 4 between staff members and children ensures proper supervision and quality care. The staff members have experience with infants and toddlers and care for the children in a loving and nurturing manner. All staff members are thoroughly screened and must submit a current medical form, signed by their physician. The program is available for the hours of 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
The classrooms are carpeted and equipped with many age appropriate and developmentally appropriate toys. Our highchair table for our infants and our special, little people highchairs for our toddlers make mealtime and snacktime fun and easy. Each room is equipped with new, sanitary changing tables and diaper pails. Our classrooms are self contained with sinks, refrigerators, microwaves, etc. so that our staff can focus their attention on our children. Formula, milk, juice bottles and all other food supplies for the infants and toddlers are refrigerated within their classrooms.
We have a soothing napping room where each child is designated a crib and parents are asked to send in a clean crib sheet each week. An extra sheet and one or more changes of clothes should be left at our center. Diapers, wipes and a change of clothes must be supplied by the parents, as needed. All property should be properly labeled. All materials and toys are properly washed and disinfected daily to maintain sanitary conditions.
A completed medical form indicating the proper immunizations must be submitted for each child prior to enrollment and future immunizations must be administered at the appropriate ages as designated by the New York State Department of Health. Documentation must be submitted to maintain current and accurate records at our facility.
We feel confident that your child will grow and learn in our safe and caring environment.
